[Video | Action for Cherrygrove City]

--it looks like you’re getting a handle on relying on the Pokemon, Jean. Keep it up.

[ The feed cracks on to that tidbit. At first, the view is shaky, as though the holder isn’t sure how to properly handle holding onto the Gear from behind. The Gear is dropped, screen first to the ground, a small Axew sound following, before it is picked up and held properly this time. It centers on two similarly dressed people, a Luxio by Mikasa’s legs and a Scyther by Jean’s. A practice battle, but it’s unsure who the winner is? ]

Thanks, Mikasa! It’s a lot to get used to, but I’m sure I can do it.

[ Jean grins, looking quite pleased with himself, before turning toward the beach. For those familiar with the area, it looks like Cherrygrove’s shoreline. Jean flops down in the sand, running it through his fingers with the fascination of one who’s never seen it before. His Scyther wades out into the water and splashes around, clearly having the time of his life. ]

You can. The next city holds a Gym, with a badge that will make traveling easier. [ She adjusts her scarf as she watches the Scyther play around for a bit. Then she remembers-- ]

I need get something from the Pokemon Center. Eren-- [ She turns to look straight at the Gear, and for a moment, the camera jumps a bit, as if caught. Instead of reprimanding him or anything, she just gives a nod. ] -will stay with you. In the meantime, could you check on Rain? I sent him out to train a minute ago…

Yeah, sure! [ And with that, Jean hoists himself up to search for the Magikarp in question. The Scyther ignores him and continues playing in the water. It doesn’t take long for Jean to find Rain and he approaches the fish. ]

Wonder if you gained any levels… you still seem pretty useless. Why does Mikasa keep a fish like you around anyway?

[ Mikasa had long gone back to the Center once she got Jean’s confirmation. The camera waddles closer to the shoreline and pays attention to the bit of fin poking the surface that Jean is looking at. Huh. That’s weird. Rain usually flops and splashes and makes a fuss whenever he’s in the water. He’s being quiet! What’s--

The water suddenly breaks with a loud roar echoing through the beach. Eren the Axew lets out a cry, nearly dropping the Gear. The newly evolved Gyarados looks down at Jean with intent. ]

...Uh… [ Jean goes pale, staring at the massive sea serpent. ] What the hell are you!? You’re not Rain! Scyther! [ But the Bug-type just looks at him with disdain; clearly he got himself into this mess, so he can get himself out of it.

The Gyarados lunges, mouth wide open with very sharp looking fangs--

--and that’s how Mikasa finds the situation.

After having retrieved the two Gible eggs she had in storage, when Mikasa heard the roar by the ocean, she immediately took to running back. She’d been stuck frozen for only a moment when she sees the giant… snake thing? And it had Jean struggling to not get swallowed. Just what the hell is that? It isn’t a Titan, sure, but its size-- ]

Jean!

[ Mikasa comes down to the ocean, taking the time to quickly but gently place the two eggs in the warm sand before sprinting to the Gyarados, Armin the Luxio behind her. What is she going to do? She doesn’t have her 3D Manuever Gear to get up there quickly. Her mind’s in overload but her body is moving, picking up another pokeball and summoning her Skarmory. If it can just bring her up a bit to get at Jean… ]

Armin, attack!

[ Armin uses Spark on that Gyarados! … to which Mikasa belatedly reminds herself she might be shocking Jean. But it’s too late to recall the order as the Luxio charges up and goes.

Well, Electric-type moves are four times effective against Gyarados, so that attack is probably going to do a lot of damage. Unfortunately, it’s also going to do a lot of damage to Jean, who shrieks (more with surprise than with pain, fortunately enough) and finally manages to struggle enough to get free. Even his Scyther is looking on with a bit of concern now. ]

Mikasa! Help!

[ As soon as the call left his lips, Mikasa had somehow urged her Skarmory up with her on its back to the mouth of the Gyarados. Its head was lowered enough as it was reeling from that attack, but not enough for her to properly reach it from land. Jean’s teetering dangerously out of the Gyarados’ mouth, and Mikasa only manages to get in with him to push him out of the Gyarados’ mouth with her inside it. Hope you don’t mind suddenly being hoisted on a Skarmory’s back, Jean. Before Mikasa could jump back on with him, however, a thought occurs: ]

Jean--

[ That’s when the Gyarados decides to clamp his mouth shut with a grumble. Mikasa’s Skarmory screeches in alarm, lowering himself to the ground because ack what is this change in weight? ]

Mikasa!!

[ Well, that screech is probably loud enough to be heard by anyone in Cherrygrove. Jean tries to struggle with the Skarmory, but as anyone who has attempted to fight a Pokémon before will know, that’s out of the question. He lands in the sand and immediately turns to his Scyther. ]

Scyther! Kill it!

[ Well, that’s good enough for the Scyther. He lunges forward with a Quick Attack, trying to at least get the Gyarados to let Mikasa go.

That attack gets a very threatening rumble in response, since the Gyarados already endured a strong Spark. But… it’s not opening its mouth? He would roar as its species are wont to do, but it looks like he’s trying to refrain from doing so with Mikasa in his mouth?

However, due to being weakened by two attacks, his ferocity is starting to slow. In fact, this allows Mikasa to slowly pry the Gyarados’ mouth open some hidden strength. Despite her situation, she just looks wet - or slimy, eck - all over and unharmed. Her face is set in concentration, as the Gyarados is still trying to clamp down, but when she calls to Jean, it’s not in panic. ]

Jean! I need you- [ Oh? She has to pause to adjust her arm position. ] -to check your PokeDex.

[ … oh. ]

My what? Now isn’t the time for that, Mikasa--!

[ Mikasa, Mikasa what are you doing, why this. Jean glances to the Skarmory and frowns, wondering if he can give it orders. Well, there’s no sense in not trying. ]

Go up there and try to rescue her!

[ With that said, he actually does run back to the beach to grab his bag, throwing things out until he locates his PokeDex. He turns it on the Gyarados immediately and frowns. It doesn’t take long for his expression to change to surprised though, and he calls out to Mikasa after a moment. ]

Mikasa, that’s Rain! It’s the “evolved form” of Magikarp, whatever that means!

[ Despite not being his actual trainer, the Skarmory flies back up and hovers to make sure she grabs on. Mikasa is still struggling with keeping her - apparently - Gyarados’ mouth open, but when she hears the description, she lets out a sigh. ]

A “pleasant surprise,” huh… [ Those fishermen lied to her. Meanwhile, on the ground, Eren the Axew is letting out cries and yells and jumping this way and that. Rain?! That’s now how you treat our trainer! He’s gonna give him a piece of his mind, he will! ]

… hmm? What is Eren…? Jean - stop my Axew!

[ Charge! Goes Eren, dropping the Gear into the sand, and ending the feed. ]

[ Video Message Half an Hour Later: ]

[ The feed snaps back on with only a slightly disgruntled and disheveled looking Mikasa. Jean can be seen in the background, trying to contain a hissing and spitting Axew. She lets out a small sigh, running a hand through her still moist hair briefly. ]

I apologize for the interruption. [ Whether earlier or now is left up in the air. ] But considering there's been recent changes in my team make up... what do people suggest feeding large Pokemon with?

[ Berries and small Pokemon food just don't seem to cut it - or make sense - with large sea serpents. ]

[ Fish, is what Morgiana wants to say. Unfortunately, her last memory involving fish wasn't exactly a nice one, so she just sits there staring blankly at the feed. ]

...

...

...

Are you two okay? [ She finally manages. ]

I'd try feeding it what the PokéDex says. Like my Onix only eats large boulders outside of berries and stuff.

I usually cook a variety of dishes and see what my pokémon prefer from the selection. It's not the most cost-effective way, but I love to offer them the continuous opportunity to expand their horizons!

[France considers this for a long moment before nodding slightly to himself.]

Although I haven't had a Gyarados myself, I have been able to observe a close friend of mine's and he seemed to prefer fish over most land mammals and certainly over any sort of plant. I do find that to get proper nutrition in every meal for most larger pokémon, it is necessary to include some of the pokémon food sold in stores, especially when travelling.

[It's very difficult to feed the equivalent to a cow every two days to, say, France's Charizard while trekking through the Ice Path.]

It's a Pokémon. They don't really work with the typical rules of anatomy and physiology.

... Which one exactly are you trying to feed? It depends on the pokemon itself.

Yes, I'm well.

[ She doesn't quite understand why she's asking, but she has the manners to respond when she's spoken to. ]

Jean... That is your ally?

[Dorumon turns the video on and is half a second away from saying "I let mine hunt for himself" before he realizes who he's talking to and what saying that might imply and he snaps his mouth shut with a look of alarm.

The silence that follows is intensely awkward.]

...u-um. Maybe they'll...tell you if you ask...

[Hmmm...] I imagine since they usually live in water, they'd be more accustomed to fish actually. Though I imagine, since they've been around for a while, that stores would have a diet specially catered to it.

[France nods sagely.]

I've never quite believed in store bought pet food back home, but, from my own experience, there are things here that no one has quite been able to figure out. Pokémon diets are part of that. I also simply don't have the resources I do back home to feed all of my pokémon in the manner I wish to, even though I usually work as a chef. It honestly disturbs me there are so few farms in this place.

[ well he does feel bad about not being super helpful. but it's not like... well hold on. ]

Maybe next time you're in town, you could find a book on Gyarados. I bet that would be more helpful than what advice people can offer.

[Jean replies a little later than Mikasa due to dealing with Eren, but he looks alright at least!]

Yeah. Yeah, we're fine. Are you alright?

[Poor thing looks pretty shaken for some reason. Hopefully it wasn't the giant Gyarados.]

[personal profile] antileader 2013-08-26 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It eats boulders?

[Also what's an Onix? Jean's reply comes a bit after Mikasa's due to dealing with Eren.]

[personal profile] antileader 2013-08-26 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Hopefully you don't have too many Pokémon then, because that would take a long time otherwise! Unless you really like cooking or something.

[His reply comes some time after Mikasa's.]

[Jean's response comes some time after Mikasa's.]

We're talking about the Gyarados. It looks like it would like fish of some kind, but since it used to be a Magikarp...

[Wouldn't that be cannibalism?]
onelevelnicer: (❀ It's Just Like This)

[personal profile] onelevelnicer 2013-08-26 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I said. I wonder if that's not a little cannibalistic though...
